There are two main types of work permits:
- Employer-specific work permit: You can only work for the employer who offered you the job. This is the most common type and requires an LMIA.
- Open work permit: This allows you to work for any employer in Canada and does not require an LMIA. Open work permits are usually issued to spouses of skilled
workers or international students, or in special cases.
- Work permit dura8on: Your work permit will be valid for the duration of your job, and you may be able to extend it if needed.
- Family members: Your spouse or common-law partner and dependent children may also be eligible to apply for permits to accompany you.
